The Universal Grand Lodge welcomes Madame Catherine Dumas to the GLU Headquarters

08/06/2026 GLU Headquarters, Paris

The writer and historian Catherine Dumas was received at the Universal Grand Lodge Headquarters for an exceptional lecture on the history of literature and Freemasonry.

The Universal Grand Lodge had the honor of receiving Madame Catherine Dumas, renowned writer and specialist in literary history, in the salons of its Hotel, located in the heart of Paris. This exceptional meeting brought together more than 200 Brothers and guests for an evening dedicated to culture and knowledge.

A Passionating Conference

Madame Catherine Dumas offered the audience a conference entitled "The Lights of the Spirit: when literature illuminates the initiatory quest". For nearly two hours, she explored the deep links between the great literary works and the Masonic tradition, from the 18th century to the present day.

Her presentation highlighted how writers such as Goethe, Voltaire, or more recently contemporary authors, have integrated into their works the symbols and questions specific to Freemasonry.

A Privileged Moment of Exchange

Following the conference, a time of exchange allowed participants to ask their questions to the author. The themes addressed were rich and varied:

  • The place of women in Masonic literature
  • The influence of Masonic symbolism on contemporary art
  • The future prospects of initiatory literature
  • The links between Africa and Masonic traditions

Visit to Historical Places

Madame Catherine Dumas also had the privilege of visiting the historical salons of the Universal Grand Lodge Hotel, as well as the museum and the library, accompanied by the Grand Master and several members of the Council of the Order.

She expressed her emotion at the richness of the heritage preserved in these places, testifying to three centuries of Masonic tradition.

"I am deeply touched by the welcome that was reserved for me. The Universal Grand Lodge perfectly embodies this alliance between tradition and modernity that makes the richness of contemporary Freemasonry."

— Madame Catherine Dumas

Fraternal Agapes

The evening continued with fraternal agapes in the great banquet hall, where the guests were able to continue the exchanges in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This meeting marks the beginning of a regular collaboration between the Universal Grand Lodge and the literary world, with the planned programming of several other cultural events in the coming months.
